Contraception
Birth Control Options
There are different types of contraception available for different types of women. Factors to consider include your desire to have kids (and when), your age, and any health problems you might have. If you would like to discuss birth control options, Dr. Ana Morales will be more than happy to offer her expert opinion on any of the following birth control methods:
- Birth control pills – Oral contraception is the most common type of birth control, as it can be used by practically any woman regardless of age, health condition, or plans for motherhood. However, not all pills are created equal. Dr. Morales will recommend the best pill for you based on your unique needs.
- Intrauterine device (IUD) – An IUD is intended for a woman who has had at least one child, is in a monogamous relationship, and does not want to become pregnant any time soon. There are 3 brands of IUDs available: Mirena, Skyla, and Paraguard. The device is inserted into your uterus in the office (a quick outpatient procedure) and it can prevent pregnancy until it is removed, for up to 5 years.
- Implantable devices (Nexplanon) – Nexplanon is another form of long-lasting contraception. It is a small, soft, and flexible implant that is placed under the skin on the inside of your upper arm by the doctor. It will prevent pregnancy until it is removed, for up to 3 years.
- We also offer diaphragms and Depo-Provera injections for birth control methods.
The decision to use birth control is very personal and private. Dr. Morales and the staff at Caring for Women will always respect whatever your decisions you make.
