Well-Woman Exams
Dr. Ana Morales offers well-woman exams as part of her commitment to providing routine, preventative care for women of all ages. A preventative pelvic exam is recommended on a yearly basis to prevent and/or treat any signs of cancer or infection. The well-woman exam may include a Pap smear (starting at age 21), STD screening, and breast exam.
For most people, the well-woman exam will simply confirm that there are no problems present. In some cases, however, an abnormal Pap smear, positive STD result, or a breast-related problem may require additional evaluation by our expert gynecologist in Friendswood.
- Pap Smear: An abnormal Pap smear means that abnormal cells were found in your cervix, which is an early warning sign of cervical cancer. Upon further evaluation and testing, Dr. Morales may recommend a colposcopy or cryotherapy procedure to remove any abnormal cells in your cervix.
- STD Screening: A positive STD result will tell Dr. Morales which STD you need treatment for. Almost every STD can be treated, although ongoing treatment and testing may be required. Vaccines are available for some STDs as well, such as the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection (Gardasil is available for girls and women 12-26 years old).
- Breast Exam: If there is a lump, or if you are experiencing pain in your breasts, Dr. Morales will want to investigate the cause of the lump or pain to eliminate any concerns of breast cancer.
If it’s time to schedule your yearly female exam, Dr. Morales would be delighted to see you at Caring for Women in Friendswood, Texas. Call our GYN office at (832) 619-1373 for an appointment, or submit an online appointment request.
